Dell Vostro 3400 - i3 11th Gen, 8GB RAM, 1000GB HDD

Where all the storage is. A 1TB mechanical drive is slower to start up than an SSD and nobody will pretend otherwise, but it is a thousand gigabytes, and for a family machine that accumulates photographs, films and years of documents that is the specification that actually matters. The Vostro 3400 is Dell's small business line, plastic rather than metal, and this one is in fair shape with light swirl marks on the lid and a little shine on the keys. An 11th generation Core i3 with 8GB runs Windows 11 without struggling. Expect to wait a few seconds longer at boot than you would on the SSD machines nearby. There is a spare slot inside for an SSD to be added later to carry the operating system while the big drive keeps the files, which is the usual way these get improved. Ethernet and HDMI were both confirmed against live hardware. A sensible choice for a household rather than a professional. For anyone weighing this against the SSD machines: the difference is felt at start-up and when opening large files, not while typing or browsing. Decide on how you will actually use it.
